10 Snacks Santa LOVES from Around the World!

Christmas is nearly here, and we couldn't be more excited! There's lots of planning and prepping still to do to make Christmas Day the most wonderful day of the year. One thing on our list of to-do's is to make sure we've got Santa's favorite snack ready for Christmas Eve. So, milk and cookies is on our shopping list! But that got us thinking... What are some of Santa's other favorite snacks? Well, it seems he's got a lot, and not everyone in the world leaves cookies and milk for him! Check out some of the other treats children leave for Santa around the world!

America
In the United States, many children leave a glass of milk and a plate of cookies for Santa. Some families deviate from the norm by leaving Santa and his reindeer carrots, pizza, or even celery.

Australia
Although Australians also leave cookies for Santa to snack on, they replace the glass of milk with a cold glass of beer. December is actually summer for Australia, so the glass of beer might be just what Santa needs in the hot weather.

Ireland
Some Irish families leave a pint of Guinness for Santa on the eve of Christmas. Children usually place the cold beer near the tree to offer Old Saint Nick a quick pick-me-up for the long night ahead.

Britain
Like in Australia and Ireland, children in Britain leave Santa alcohol. Families believe Santa needs some sherry to warm up on Christmas night. It's also tradition to pair the sherry with a mince pie.

Argentina
Children in Argentina leave out hay and water. Christmas in Argentina continues until January 6, which is Three Kings Day. The night before Three Kings Day, children leave their shoes outside so they can be filled with gifts. They also leave hay and water for the kings' horses.

Netherlands
In the Netherlands, children often leave carrots and hay to help energize Santa's horses — yes, horses — on their trip around the world.

Denmark
Denmark doesn't leave anything for Julemanden — Denmark's term for Santa — to munch on, but they do leave out rice pudding for elves - who are named nisser and who live in the attic — a bowl of rice pudding called risengrod. They believe that if the rice pudding isn't left out, then the nisser will taunt them all evening long.

Iceland
In Iceland, children leave out laufabrauĂ°, which translates to leaf bread and tastes like a crispy wafer. In Iceland, Christmas lasts 26 days, and there are actually 13 Santa-like figures who bring children gifts and snacks.

France
In France, children leave out carrots and cookies in their shoes.

Germany
Germans have more of a Christmas angel, the "Christkind," than a Santa, and they don't leave any snacks. German children leave out handwritten letters before going to bed.

It's amazing to see how different cultures celebrate the holiday season around the world, isn't it? We hope you've enjoyed learning a little something new about Christmas from around the world! And this is your friendly reminder that no matter what your holiday tradition is for Santa, it's creeping up fast! So make sure you've got what you need!

If you are needing to protect your home from pests this holiday season, call A B Pest Control & Insulation at 573-964-1100. From keeping your home warm all season long to protecting your home from pests, A B Pest Control & Insulation can take care of it all.

Why Winter Pest Control is a Must!

During the colder months, there are several things that homeowners are thinking about when it comes to maintaining their home: furnace upkeep; sealing doorways and windows to keep heat from escaping; winterizing outdoor water spigots... But what about pest control? Oftentimes, homeowners get to the fall and winter months and think they're safe from pests. However, this is actually not true...

It's important to continue regular pest control treatments during the colder months. Your Lake of the Ozarks pest control company takes a look at how winter affects pest control and why it's still important to schedule routine pest control treatments throughout the winter months.

Insects During The Winter
Some pests migrate to warmer climates during the winter season, and some insects spend the winter in hibernation. This is because they're cold blooded creatures who need to conserve their energy during the frigid winter months. Other insects, like bees and wasps, will hide under fallen logs and warm underbrush to keep as warm as possible. Since those insects rely on the pollen from trees and plants, they must use as little energy as possible due to the poor food supply.

And then there's opportunistic pests, such as cockroaches and rodents, who are going to try to seek shelter in the one place that offers protection from outdoor elements, food and water... your home.

Why Continue Pest Control During Winter
It's important to continue pest control treatments inside and outside your home throughout the winter months to keep pests that are seeking warmth from gaining access. Rodents, termites, carpenter ants and spiders all can invade homes during the winter, and when they do they tend to take up residence inside the walls, which could make it more difficult to find and treat.
  • If pests are inside the walls of your home, they are not affected by the cold temperatures outside.
  • In addition to insects living in the walls, attics provide shelter to wasps and spiders, as they try to escape the cold.
  • If there are points of entry that are not sealed up, rodents can find their way into your home.
  • When a professional pest control company treats your home, they will ensure there are no pest related issues or identify any conditions that could lead to the future pest problems.
  • When a pest control company removes spider webs, egg cases and wasp nests, it prevents them from reemerging when the weather warms back up.

How Winter Weather Affects Treatment
However, the weather could have some effects on the treatments. During this time of the year, most treatments are performed around the foundation of homes, where there are eaves and overhangs that tend to be sheltered, so they don't usually receive large amounts of moisture. Treatments around the outside of the home are usually ok during light rain or snow. However, if there is no shelter or if there's heavy rain and snow, it may be best to reschedule the treatment for a different day. Once pest control treatments have been applied and have had a chance to dry, precipitation will not usually affect the treatment.

This fall has been unusually warm and dry, which may have caused some pests to not go into hibernation, meaning you're likely still seeing them around outside. But we won't get lucky enough to not experience the coming winter cold spell. And those pests will soon attempt to make their way indoors. If you need pest control services this winter, call A B Pest Control & Insulation at 573-964-1100. We can help you keep your home pest free this season!

Learn More About Lake Area Candyland!

Last week we talked about the upcoming event, Lake Area Christmas for Kids. This week, we wanted to hit on another amazing event. This is a wonderful event that also focuses on helping underprivileged children around the Lake of the Ozarks experience a more fulfilling Christmas - Lake Area Candyland! Here's a little information about this event:

2021 Candyland Event
The Candyland event was founded in 1984 and to date has served over 12,500 local children. In all, our local Rotary Clubs sponsor roughly 300 children each year with this event that may not otherwise have a joyous Christmas for a number of reasons. They receive lists of needy children from both the Eldon School District, as well as the School of the Osage.

How to Donate
Christmas trees with candy canes will be setup at the Stone Crest Mall in Osage Beach, and at the Tri-County YMCA in Osage Beach. Select a candy cane from the tree, and on that candy cane, will be a card with the name of a needy child in the area. Purchase gifts ranging from $75-$100 (or what you can afford), and return the gifts with the card to the Stone Crest Mall. Once gifts are received, the Rotary Club will deliver the gifts to the children. Cash donations are also being taken for the cause by contacting the Rotary Club.

Where: The Stone Crest Mall or Tri-County YMCA in Osage Beach
When: Saturday, November 27th through Friday, December 10th
Times: Monday-Friday 2PM-6PM, Saturday 11AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-5PM

To make a cash donation, please contact: Kevin Wood @ 636-262-8051 or Kevin@yourlake.com or Celeste Barela @ 573-286-0640 or celest@wtcpa.com.

Learn More about the Lake of the Ozarks Rotary Clubs
Rotary is a service club. Its product is serving. Rotarians provide community service to both local and international communities. This is perhaps the best reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do something for somebody else and to sense the self-fulfillment that comes in the process and return of that satisfaction to one's own life. It is richly rewarding.

Each year, the local Rotary Clubs host a number of events that directly benefits our local community. They donate thousands of dollars each year to help non-profit organizations within our community, including (but not limited to) organizations such as Special Olympics of Missouri, Boys State, Medical Missions for Christ, Local Area Needs Initiative, and so many more.

Currently, there are 3 Rotary Clubs here at the Lake of the Ozarks. All are great clubs that do a LOT for our community. If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Rotarian, visit their websites at:

Lake Ozark Noon Rotary - www.LakeOzarkRotary.com
Lake Ozark Daybreak Rotary - www.daybreakrotary.org
Laurie-Sunrise Beach Rotary - www.lsbrotary.org

We hope that you'll find it in your heart this coming holiday season to help out our community. Whether its through Candyland or another event that benefits our local charities and community members, your donation - whether monetary or through volunteerism - is truly appreciated!

And remember, this season is all about having fun with your friends and family and enjoying the coming holidays, so don’t waste your time worrying about pests invading your home! You can count on A B Pest Control & Insulation to take care of all of your pesky problems so you can focus on all the good times that the holidays bring.
