Common Weeds That Can Take Over Your Lawn

Spring is finally upon us. There is nothing more wonderful than taking in the new life that begins to grow throughout nature. Unfortunately, some of the new life that grows isn’t quite as breathtaking as one would hope. Weeds have been a persistent area of annoyance to anyone who has lived in a home with a yard. The pulling, the tugging, the bargaining. Luckily, the crew here at A B Pest Control and Insulation has put together a list of the most common weeds that can tarnish your lawn’s appearance, that way you know what to expect as the season commences.

Dandelion
Most will recognize the name and bright yellow flowers at first glance. These plants tend to grow throughout early spring and continue to grow into the fall season. The Dandelion, also called the Taraxacum officinale, is fast spreading, but is known to have no health risks to you or your furry ones. In fact, they actually do supply some benefits! Bees love them which is great for the environment. Plus, they actually offer several health benefits when eaten, such as helping to fight inflammation, promote liver health, aid in blood sugar management, and so much more!

Broadleaf Plantain
Broadleaf plantain is a common weed in turfgrass, nurseries, and landscapes. It germinates from seed in late spring through mid-to-late summer and occasionally in the fall depending on temperature and moisture. It has a low growing rosette habit and tolerates close mowing. It’s ability to survive a range of environments make broadleaf plantain a common frustration in lawns.

Ground Ivy
This common weed, also known as “Creeping Charlie,” tends to be a problem plant for most lawns as it grows at an alarmingly fast rate. It begins growing in shaded areas but can quickly spread to areas that intake sunlight. This plant can be difficult to contain once it has established its presence in your yard. Luckily, our team at A B Pest Control and Insulation is more than qualified to help rid you of this infestation of plant growth.

Clover
Another popular and well-known weed, we have the clover. Clovers usually grow between the months of May spanning through September. Typically having 3 leaflets, although occasionally you may spot a 4th, these plants tend to grow rapidly, and have shown to have some pretty interesting benefits to your lawn, as well as the wildlife that may pass through; however, we do understand the want of not having weeds growing amongst your grass and other flowers. Clovers usually grow between the months of May spanning through September.

Spurge
Spurge is a type of fast-growing weed that can quickly become a problem if not treated. This annual summer weed grows low to the ground and spreads fast. The earlier you catch this weed growing in your lawn, the quicker you can control it.

The weeds we covered only amount for a small portion of the weeds that impact our area. We want to ensure that your lawn is one that is healthy and ready for the blossoming that spring brings. When you start to notice weeds growing amongst your beautiful flowers this season be sure to call A B Pest Control and Insulation and schedule an appointment so we can get your lawn in top shape as spring rolls in.

4 Benefits of Pesticide Infused Insulation

A B Pest Control & Insulation knows that ensuring that your home is properly insulated can help reduce energy costs and give you peace of mind! Your pest control company at the Lake of the Ozarks can also insulate your home with insulation that provides pest control as well. This week, we want to share with you 4 benefits of pesticide infused insulation.

Benefits of Pesticide Infused Insulation
Pesticide infused insulation from A B Pest Control will not only reduce your energy costs, but it also kills insects that hide in unreachable parts of your home! It provides effective long lasting control against cockroaches, termites and other pests, while preventing insect infestation in areas where it is applied (walls, attics and under floors). The entire list of insects that our pesticide infused insulation kills upon contact or ingestion are listed below:
  • Drywood Termites
  • Centipedes
  • Silverfish
  • Millipedes
  • Ants
  • Sowbugs
  • Subterranean Termites
  • Booklice
  • Cockroaches
  • Grain Weevils
  • Crickets
  • Earwigs

Built In Pest Control
Pesticide infused insulation never stops working. Pesticide infused insulation prevents insect infestation for the life of your home, killing insects on contact, or when the insect ingests minute amounts of the insulation. Yet, the active ingredients are safe to humans and pets. There are no irritating side effects related to the installation or inhalation of pesticide infused insulation. Odorless Insulation works behind the walls and in the attics where pests live and breed. Plus, pesticide infused insulation has superior energy saving, fire protection, and sound absorbing qualities.

Superior Energy Saving
Using pesticide infused insulation in a home will result in lower energy bills. This insulation seals air leaks to create a more controlled environment within the home. The insulation reduces the amount of heat that transfers through the wall and attic. Pesticide infused insulation is denser than traditional insulation so air does not move through it as well.

Sound Absorption
Experienced builders use pesticide infused insulation in walls and ceilings because of its excellent sound reduction qualities. Since it's a denser insulation, it works great as a barrier for both room to room and outside noise, making it a great choice for new and existing construction.

Fire Protection
Traditional insulation can melt and create a chimney-like effect within the wall. Properly installed, pesticide infused insulation is so dense that it slows the spread of fire by blocking flames and hot gasses and restricts the availability of oxygen in insulated walls and ceilings, ultimately limiting the spread of fire.
