We Offer All Types of Insulation!

Home insulation is an important part of any house. A B Pest Control & Insulation knows that ensuring that your home is properly insulated can help save you money on heating and cooling costs, it absorbs unwanted noises, and can even help reduce exposure to formaldehyde. A B Pest Control and Insulation can evaluate your home and make the proper recommendations for the best insulation to meet your needs.

We offer all types of insulation, including:
  • foam insulation (closed & open)
  • cellulose insulation
  • fiberglass insulation (batt or blown-in)
  • pesticide infused insulation
  • vapor barrier
  • thermal ignition barrier

Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation is an air barrier system that effectively seals wall, floor, and ceiling cavities against air movement, including spaces around electrical outlets and light fixtures, at baseboards, and where walls meet windows and doors. Creating an air barrier with spray foam improves energy efficiency and helps heating and cooling systems keep pace with less work. It also reduces noise from outside sources and between rooms within the home.

Cellulose Insulation
Cellulose insulation is great for insulating empty spaces, such as attics and crawl spaces. Cellulose insulation is thick, dense, and clumpy, with a consistency much like down feathers. The chief value of this shape and size is that the insulation can fit in enclosed areas (such as walls) and can conform around obstructions such as wires and ducts (found both in walls and in attics).

Fiberglass Insulation
Fiberglass is a type of fiber primarily composed of glass that is used as a residential and commercial thermal insulator. As an insulator, it slows the spread of heat, cold, and sound in structures. By trapping pockets of air, it keeps rooms warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and thereby serves as a convenient method to increase energy efficiency. Commonly found in blanket form, called batts, it is available in standard pre-cut lengths and widths. Fiberglass insulation also comes as loose fill that can be blown into attic, wall and floor cavities.

Pesticide Infused Insulation
Pesticide Infused insulation is installed by blowing the product into attics on top of existing insulation or into attics and wall voids of new construction. It will reduce heating & cooling costs, while also controlling common household pests that nest in attics and walls like roaches, ants, termites, and silverfish.

Vapor Barrier
A vapor barrier is used for damp proofing that resists diffusion of moisture through the wall, floor, ceiling, or roof assemblies of buildings to prevent condensation damage. This thin sheeting in the crawl space helps create a divide between water and your home. Spread uniformly across the soil and partway up onto the crawl space walls, it keeps water in the soil instead of in the crawl space.

Thermal & Ignition Barrier
All polyurethane spray foams require a code-approved thermal barrier—ordinarily a layer of ½” drywall—between the foam and the living space. The thermal barrier is designed to make it more difficult for a fire inside the living space to gain access to the fresh source of fuel in the spray foam, leaving the home’s occupants with more time to escape. Ignition barriers are required in foam-insulated attics, crawlspaces, and other areas with limited access that can’t be used as living space. They offer a lower order of protection, and are intended simply to prevent a possible flame source from making direct contact with the foam.

Do You have a Mouse Infestation?

Rodents and other creatures may find their way into your home to seek shelter from the cold. Mice like to seek shelter in warm places during the fall and winter months, which may mean inside your home. Although they like to be sneaky, they do leave clues that let you know they have been in your home. A Lake of the Ozarks pest control company can help you make sure mice don't get comfy in your home, but you need to know they are there first in order to make the call. A B Pest Control & Insulation shares with you a few things to look for to help you determine whether you have a mouse infestation.

Look for Droppings
Finding small grain-sized droppings in corners, along the edges of your home or where you have spot activity (like in the pantry) is a sign of an active infestation. These droppings can transmit diseases. Food that's eaten from a contaminated area can cause serious illnesses. call a professional Lake of the Ozarks pest control company to prevent the situation from getting worse.

Damage to Food
Mice love to eat, which is one reason they are in your home. If you look in your pantry and find that a box of cereal has a hole in it, it may be the work of a mouse. Homeowners will often find holes in items like dog food, bird seed and, of course, pantry items. Often times the damaged item will show teeth marks, so it will be clear it is mice doing the chewing, however, this isn't always the case.

Chew Marks
In addition to food items being damage, rodents can also damage your baseboards, furniture and doors. Because their teeth grow fast, they need to chew in order to file them down. This could be anything from baseboard to wiring. If the chewing goes unnoticed, it could cause damage to your home, which could require some costly repairs.

Noises in the Wall
One of the first signs you have a rodent problem is noise in the walls. Sometimes you can hear a scratching noise and other times you can hear squeaking. The sound could come from the walls or ceilings. Pay close attention to where you are hearing the noise, as this can help identify how they are getting in and where they are nesting.

Pay Attention to Your Pets
Dogs and cats like to sniff around a place which has been infested by rodents. If you notice such a behavior from your pet, check the place more carefully. You may notice that your pet continues to visit the same spot and is trying to get to something that you don't see. As an example, if your pet is frantically trying to get into a closet that you know doesn't have anything in it they'd normally be interested in, you may want to check things out. They may be smelling or hearing mice scurrying around in there.

Keep Mice Out with A B Pest Control & Insulation
While the cold may keep insects at bay, it may drive other pests like mice into your home. Because rodents seek warm shelters, they will invade a home if they find an entrance. Luckily, a professional pest control company at the Lake of the Ozarks can help you if you find them in your home. A B Pest Control & Insulation is here for all your pest control needs, just schedule an appointment by calling 573-964-1100.

5 Tips to Prepare Your Home for Holiday Guests

The holidays are supposed to be a joyful time filled with fantastic memories and wonderful bonding opportunities. However, as the host of holiday gatherings, you may be feeling more than just excitement. You may be feeling the anxieties that typically come along with the anticipation of the holidays. So, we at A B Pest Control & Insulation want to help alleviate some of your stresses by providing you some tips to help prepare your home for holiday guests.

1. Meal Prep in Advance
There will be plenty of meals you'll have to prepare. Rather than waiting until the day of to decide on what meals you'll be making and spending all day in the kitchen instead of with your family, meal prep in advance! You can Google all kinds of quick meal ideas that can be prepared and frozen. Then all you have to do is simply pull them out of the freezer and throw them in the oven or crock pot! You can still provide your visitors with a delicious home-made meal without missing out on spending time with them!

2. Make Sleeping Arrangements
Chances are, some of your guests will be planning to stay overnight, especially if they've traveled far. Rather than worrying about finding them a budget friendly hotel room, plan ahead for sleeping arrangements in your own home. Locate all of your air mattresses ahead of time and make sure they're in good condition. Wash your linens and blankets before everyone arrives, and determine where your guests will be staying while they're there. This will eliminate any question of where they'll sleep and how long they can stay.

3. Plan Some Age-Appropriate Activities
Your family and friends may bring their kids while visiting during the holidays, or maybe you have kids of your own. What a joy those little tykes bring to the season... until they get bored. Avoid hearing 'I'm bored' when it's too cold for them to go outside to play, and plan out some age-appropriate activities that'll keep them busy. Some quick ideas: Movie & Snacks, Arts & Crafts, Coloring Books, Scavenger Hunt

4. Deep Clean Your Home
While this may not seem like a stress-less way to prepare for your guests, it's still a must. We, of course, always want to show our homes in the best condition. By doing the cleaning ahead of time, this will allow you to focus more on the enjoyable aspects of having visitors over for the holiday. Plus, this will be a great time for you to 'baby or child proof' your home if it's needed.

5. Schedule Pest Control Services
There's nothing you want less than to see a skittering scurrying critter run across your kitchen floor when you have guests over for the holidays. You've done your diligent duty to deep clean your home and plan the perfect family gathering. Don't let that time be ruined by pesky pests trying to impose their way into your warm home. Schedule your pest control services before your holiday get-togethers so you can feel confident having visitors this holiday season!

We know how exciting and stressful this time of year can be for holiday hosts. We hope that these 5 tips to prepare your home for holiday guests will help make things a little less stressful so you can enjoy time with family. A Little History About Veteran’s Day

November 11 is Veterans Day, which is a day to honor all American veterans, especially those who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. With this special day coming up, we want to spend some time to say thank you to those who have served our country. Your Lake of the Ozarks pest control company is sharing with you a little bit of history about Veterans Day.

A Little History About Veterans Day

Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, which was the first anniversary of the end of World War I.

On November 11, 1921, an American soldier was buried at the Arlington National Cemetery. His identity was unknown, and his grave site is today known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Every year on November 11, the president or a high-ranking member of the government lays a wreath on his grave.

In 1926, Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance and in 1938, Nov. 11 became a national holiday.

Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day on June 1, 1954. The change occurred because originally, Armistice Day honored veterans of WWI. However, in WWII there was an increase of veterans, so they changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all the veterans.

From 1971 to 1977, Veterans Day was celebrated on the fourth Monday in October. Many states disapproved of the change and continued to observe the holiday on November 11. After it became evident that November 11 held historical and patriotic significance to many Americans, President Gerald R. Ford's signed a new law returning the observation of Veterans Day back to November 11 beginning in 1978.

As of 2016, there were 18.5 million veterans of the U.S. armed forces. According to the Census Bureau, approximately 10 percent were women. In addition, California has the more U.S. military veterans than any other state, followed closely by Texas and Florida.

Originally, this holiday celebrates veterans with parades and public meetings, as well as a brief suspension of businesses at 11:00 a.m. This is still the case today, as many parades are held and speeches are given across the country.

On Veterans Day, Arlington National Cemetery holds a ceremony every year to honor those who died during times of war. The ceremony is held around the Tomb of the Unknowns and at 11:00 a.m. a combined color guard representing all military services executes "Present Arms" at the tomb.

Happy Veterans Day From A B Pest Control & Insulation

While much has changed over the years, one thing remained the same: despite its different names and dates, the purpose of Veterans Day has remained the same — to say thanks. At A B Pest Control & Insulation, we want to thank everyone who has served or is serving our country. If you would like to thank a veteran, the 5th Annual Veterans Day Parade will be held on November 10 beginning at 1:00 p.m. starting at the Osage Beach City Hall to Lake of the Ozarks Elks Lodge. There will be food and beverages available at the Elks Lodge. Happy Veterans Day from A B Pest Control & Insulation
