Check Out 2022 Candyland and Lake Area Christmas for Kids!

'Tis the holiday season, and we hope that you're beginning to feel the spirit and joy of the holidays! In lieu of the upcoming holidays, we want to bring 2 special programs to your attention that we hold very near and dear to our hearts. These wonderful events focus on helping underprivileged children around the Lake of the Ozarks experience a more fulfilling Christmas - Lake Area Candyland & Lake Area Christmas for Kids! Here's a little information about these wonderful events:

2022 Candyland Event
The Candyland event was founded in 1984 and to date has served over 12,500 local children. In all, our local Rotary Clubs sponsor roughly 300 children each year with this event that may not otherwise have a joyous Christmas for a number of reasons. They receive lists of needy children from both the Eldon School District, as well as the School of the Osage.

How to Donate
Christmas trees with candy canes will be setup at Nick's True Value Hardware Store in Osage Beach, and at the Tri-County YMCA in Osage Beach. Select a candy cane from the tree, and on that candy cane, will be a card with the name of a needy child in the area. Purchase gifts ranging from $75-$100 (or what you can afford), and return the gifts with the card to Nick's True Value Hardware Store. Once gifts are received, the Rotary Club will deliver the gifts to the children. Cash donations are also being taken for the cause by contacting the Rotary Club.

Where: Nick's True Value Hardware Store or Tri-County YMCA in Osage Beach
When: November 26th through December 16th
Times: Monday-Friday 2PM-6PM, Saturday 11AM-5PM, Sunday 12PM-4PM

To make a cash donation, please contact:
Kevin Wood - 636-262-8051 or kevin@yourlake.com
Ron Dodge - 573-578-9025 or rond627@outlook.com
Chris Colter - 515-720-1925 or colterfah@yahoo.com

2022 Christmas for Kids

Another very special annual event that we are passionate about is the Lake Area Christmas for Kids event! This is the 33rd annual charity event to provide toys for Lake-area children. This year, Christmas for Kids is going back to its roots! It's going to be a BIG party with dueling pianos, food, santa, and of course, Christmas presents for the local children!

Where: Encore Lakeside Grill & Skybar
When: Sunday, December 4, 2022
Times: Doors open at 6PM, Festivities from 7-11PM

How to Donate
Just purchase a ticket or sponsor a table and bring a new, unwrapped toy to enjoy a joyous evening of fun entertainment for a great cause! Event ticket and sponsorship proceeds provide underprivileged children at the Lake of the Ozarks and surrounding communities with two Christmas gifts per child, plus a $15 gift certificate for the lake area resale shops for each child.

Funds left over after providing Christmas for the children go to organizations Kiwanis supports throughout the year: CADV, Children’s Learning Center, Hope House, Kids Harbor, Lake Area Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Lake Area Helping Hands, Lake Regional Pediatrics, LOFD Car Seat Program, Ronald McDonald House (Columbia, MO), School of the Osage Cares for Kids, Scholarships for Kids, Share the Harvest Food Pantry, Tri County YMCA, Wonderland Camp, Central Foster Care, Adoption Association and many more.

You can also make monetary donations here. Donations are also accepted via Venmo by sending money to @kiwanisclubozarkcoast. Contact Dawn Waldron via email at dawn.waldron@edwardjones.com with any questions. Without YOU . . . Christmas for over 1,000 Lake Area children would not be possible.

We hope that you'll find it in your heart this coming holiday season to help out our community. Whether its through Candyland or another event that benefits our local charities and community members, your donation - whether monetary or through volunteerism - is truly appreciated!

And remember, this season is all about having fun with your friends and family and enjoying the coming holidays, so don’t waste your time worrying about pests invading your home! You can count on A B Pest Control & Insulation to take care of all of your pesky problems so you can focus on all the good times that the holidays bring.

THEY'RE BAAAAAACK! Are You Ready for Asian Lady Beetles?

In the late fall and early spring months, Asian Lady beetles tend to show up in swarms and can become a real nuisance to homeowners. As we've already seen on Lake Area Happenings, many people are already experiencing these uninvited guests! So, we at A B Pest Control & Insulation wanted to share some tips to prevent them from taking over your home!

5 Tips for Preventing & Controlling a Swarm Infestation

1. Seal cracks around windows, door frames, and utility pipes with silicone caulk to close up entry points. Special attention should be paid to areas of the home that get the most sun, as ladybugs and Asian Lady beetles are attracted to the warmth.

2. Trimming shrubbery and branches away from a home's exterior can also help to prevent Asian Lady beetles from gaining access.

3. If you don’t want Asian Lady beetles anywhere near your home or garden, or you don’t want to go through the effort of planting an entire garden, try planting or potting some mums. Asian Lady beetles do not like mums and will avoid them.

4. Cloves or bay leaves are two spices that Asian Lady beetles can’t stand. Place these spices near windows and other infested areas to shoo away your beetle infestation.

5. If these pesky beetles have already entered a home, homeowners can use a vacuum to remove them, but it is important to dispose of the bag outdoors to prevent the insects from crawling out. Do not squish them, as they will secrete an odor that could attract more!

Call A B Pest Control & Insulation for Your Pest Control Needs!
Most people like ladybugs because they are pretty, graceful, and harmless to humans. But if you've determined that what you thought was a few harmless ladybugs, turns out to be an annoying swarm of Asian Lady beetles, we hope these tips will help you get control of the problem. While they can be enjoyable to watch, an infestation of them can become a real nuisance. So, we hope this list of tips will help you to better prevent and control an infestation! The next time you’re dealing with pests, call up the best pest control service at the Lake of the Ozarks to take care of your pesky pest problems.

Ensure Your Home Is Properly Insulated!

The days are becoming cooler as we get further into the fall season. While you're likely enjoying the savings you're likely experiencing by not having to run the A/C all day long, you're probably starting to wonder just how well insulated your home is as you wake to those cooler crisper temps. Soon enough, winter will be on its way, which typically means those higher energy bills will make their way back to your mailbox.

Fortunately, there's something you can do to help lessen the ache your wallet will feel when you kick on the furnace. A B Pest Control & Insulation knows that ensuring that your home is properly insulated can help save you money on heating and cooling costs. We can also keep your home comfortable with the proper insulation.

Lower Energy Costs
One of the most important reasons you should make sure that your home is properly insulated is so you don’t waste energy. Improperly insulated homes can waste both heating and cooling energy in your home by allowing heat transfer. Not only does it cost you more money, but it could also put a bigger strain on your system. There are many different types of insulation and A B Pest Control & Insulation can help you decide what types is best for your home or business.

Reduce Noise Pollution
Insulation has sound absorption qualities, so it can reduce unwanted noises that are created by appliances, electronic equipment, or even conversations. It can prevent sounds from being transmitted through the walls and even the floors of your home. Not only does the proper insulation keep unwanted noise at bay, but it also makes it easier for your furnace or air condition to keep the temperature constant without putting a strain on the system.

Ensure Your Home Is Properly Insulated with A B Pest Control and Insulation!
The easiest and most efficient way to ensure that your home has the proper insulation levels is to call a professional. A B Pest Control and Insulation can evaluate your home and make the proper recommendations for the best insulation to meet your needs. With proper insulation, your home can easily stay cool when it’s hot outside and warm when it’s cold out. Your Lake of the Ozarks insulation company has team members with many years of experience in the insulation business so you can trust that we will get the job done right at a fair price. Visit our website or give us a call to learn more!

5 Pests to Look Out for this Fall

Fall at the Lake of the Ozarks is here and we couldn’t be more excited for cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage to come! However, many people often have the misconception that with cooler weather comes less pests and a declining need for pest control services. However, pest control is just as important in the fall as it is any other time of the year. Check out 5 pests you might find crawling around your home this fall.

1. Mice
Mice and other rodents may try to begin entering your home looking for a warm shelter with food and water through any small crack or hole. Access points can be anything from a pipe or vent to a broken seal around a window or door. They can chew through insulation and other easy access points. Inspect your home for any place you think a mouse could get through. Ensure all window and door frames, as well as utility pipes that lead to the outside, are sealed tightly. If you have screens on your windows or doors, make sure they're in tact and repair them if necessary.

2. Termites
Termites are another common pest we see making their way into homes in the fall months. While they primarily forage underground for cellulose, they can find their way into wood cords in an attempt to feed so they can return it to the colony to feed others. It's during these excursions that termites can unknowingly enter your home, possibly leaving a trail of pheromones for the colony to follow. And since many homes are insulated with cellulose (their primary source of nutrients), your home just became a welcoming humble abode for the colony!

3. Snakes
If you have birds in your yard or rodents in your house, you may be attracting snakes onto your property. Although you may not control the birds, you can control the rodent problem. Calling a professional pest control company at the Lake of the Ozarks can help you get rid of the rodents hiding in your walls. Unfortunately, snakes like similar conditions as human. During the summer, they like cool places and during the winter, they like warmer places to hibernate, which is why they may seek your home for shelter. During the fall, you may see more snakes than usual, as they are more active due to the nice weather and they are preparing for hibernation.

4. Bed Bugs
With school back in session and people traveling for the upcoming holidays, it's prime time for bed bugs to migrate. Since they are so resilient and can dwell almost anywhere without a host for so long, they'll find refuge in carpeting, behind light switch and plugin coverings, and floor boards. For bed bugs you'll need to strip off bedding from mattresses as these may contain bugs. Your clothes may possibly be infested with bugs, so you also need to wash these with water at a very high temperature and let them dry in high heat. A professional pest control company at the Lake of the Ozarks should be contacted to treat for bed bugs as they are extremely difficult pests to get rid of and can survive for up to a year without feeding. These pests require chemical treatment as well as high heat treatment, and may require multiple treatments to eradicate the infestation.

5. Cockroaches
While some pests and rodents migrate to warmer climates for the winter months, others may seek places to hide out from the cold or hibernate. Cockroaches are one of those iffy pests that can go either way. The winter months do pose a risk to cockroaches, which will often die when exposed to temperatures less than 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, cockroaches can find plenty of ways to avoid that exposure and survive the cold months. Because of their unrelenting ability to survive even the harshest conditions, regular pest control treatments during the colder months are essential for controlling cockroaches.

Get Rid of Pests with A B Pest Control & Insulation!
There are many pests that will go into hibernation within the next few weeks, but several will simply try to seek shelter in the warmth of your home. If you need pest control services this fall or winter, call A B Pest Control & Insulation at 573-964-1100. We can help you keep your home pest free all year round!
